摘要: Climate change may cause increasing tree cover in boreal peatlands, and the impacts of this encroachment will be noted first at forested-to-open bog ecotones. We investigate key metrics ecosystem function five such ecotones a peatland complex Western Siberia. Stratigraphic analysis three cores from one these transects shows that ecotone has been dynamic over time with evidence for recent expansion forested peatland. observed two alternative states northern peatlands (forested/open) clearly support distinct plant microbial communities. These turn drive respond to number feedback mechanisms. This led steep ecological gradients across Tree was associated lower water tables pH, along higher bulk density, aquatic carbon concentrations, electrical conductivity. propose conditions found Siberia make sink more vulnerable warmer drier conditions.
