摘要: A long-standing, near-universal, and erroneous practice of teaching syntax in a void exists, as if the communicative function language had nothing to do with syntax. And semantics has customarily been taught sequence after syntax, or else not at all. Based upon graduate courses Stanford University, this work seeks redress situation by building up syntactic semantic aspects grammatical theory an integrated way from start, under assumption that neither is linguistic interest divorced other. The particular presented, head-driven phrase structure grammar (HPSG) - so-called because its central notion head information-based (or 'unification-based' roots number different research programs within linguistics neighboring disciplines such philosophy computer science.Thus HPSG draws attempts synthesize insights perspectives several families contemporary theories, categorial grammar, lexical-functional generalized government-binding theory; but many key ideas arise theories like discourse representation theory, computational areas knowledge representation, data type formalisms based unification partial information.
