Re-thinking miRNA-mRNA interactions: Intertwining issues confound target discovery

摘要: Despite a library full of literature on miRNA biology, core issues relating to target detection, biological effect, and mode action remain controversial. This essay proposes that the predominant mechanism direct is translational inhibition, whereas bulk effects are mRNA based. It explores several confounding discusses their impact dominance “miRNA seed” dogma exploration non-canonical binding sites. Finally, it makes comparisons between prediction transcription factor prediction, questions value characterizing sites based which nucleotides paired with an mRNA.
