Respiratory Health Effects of Home Dampness and Molds among Canadian Children

摘要: In 1988, the authors conducted a questionnaire-based study on health effects of indoor environment in 30 Canadian communities. This paper focuses association between respiratory young children and home dampness molds. A total 17,962 parents or guardians schoolchildren received questionnaire, 14,948 (83.2%) questionnaires were returned. Children living mobile homes, tents, boats excluded as those with cystic fibrosis, leaving 13,495 included group. The housing stock was distributed follows: 81% one-family detached 6% attached 13% buildings for two more families. Molds reported 32.4%, flooding 24.1%, moisture 14.1% homes. Prevalences all symptoms consistently higher homes molds dampness; i.e., adjusted odds ratios ranged from 1.32 (95% confidence interval 1.06-1.39) bronchitis to 1.89 1.58-2.26) cough. prevalence molds, 37.8%, indicates that it is an important public issue. Further studies are required elucidate pathogenesis.
