Awareness and practices regarding needle stick injuries among nurses in a tertiary care hospital of Delhi

摘要: Introduction: Needle stick injuries are an important occupational hazard for nursing personnel as they form mechanism transmission of blood borne pathogens. Hence the knowledge nurses about prevention and management needle practicing standard precautions is critical. Methodology: This was a hospital based cross sectional study conducted among staff during month December, 2011. A semi structured questionnaire administered to 320 working in tertiary care New Delhi by adopting systematic random sampling methodology. Data entered analysed using SPSS version 12. Percentages categorical variables were computed. Results: Only 31.1% had adequate steps injuries. 259(88.4%) authority whom should report while almost three fourth i.e. 73.4% Majority (69.6%) reported use gloves very often before venipuncture, 80.2% never recapped needles 77.5% disposed sharps puncture proof containers often. one (24.6%) always used personal protective equipment case emergencies. 85.7% received all doses hepatitis B vaccine. 51(17.4%) history injury last year out which 49(96.1%) took measures immediately after 37 (72.5%) incidence concerned authority. Conclusion:  The practices regarding found be unsatisfactory
