摘要: Although facial symmetry correlates with attractiveness, human faces are often far from symmetrical one side frequently being larger than the other (Kowner, 1998). Smith (2000) reported that male and female were asymmetrical in opposite directions, males having a area on left compared to right side, females side. The present study attempted replicate extend this finding. Two databases of images Stirling St Andrews Universities, consisting 180 122 respectively, third set 62 collected at Abertay University, used examine Smith's findings. unique method calculating size each hemiface was applied set. For sets computer program did automatically for it done manually. No significant overall effect gender asymmetry found. However, sample demonstrated similar found by Smith, significantly mean hemiface. In addition, handedness had right-handers face. These findings give limited support results but also suggest finding such an may depend some as yet unidentified factors inherent methods image collection.
