An Assessment of the Systematics of the Genus Desmomys Thomas, 1910 (Rodentia: Muridae) Using Mitochondrial DNA Sequences

摘要: We analyzed two mitochondrial gene fragments to assess genetic divergence within the genus Desmomys endemic Ethiopia and its phylogenetic relationships with related genera. The analysis supported monophyly of Arvicanthini-Otomyini group revealed that Stochomys is clearly a member Arvicanthini. Our study demonstrated D. harringtoni yaldeni belong remarkably different lineages, estimated time between them 4.10–5.38 Myr. Such early splitting specialized forest dweller, yaldeni, from sole congener supposes more ancient formation some elements Ethiopian rodent fauna than assumed today.
