Ice thickness, volume and subglacial topography of Urumqi Glacier No. 1, Tianshan mountains, central Asia, by ground penetrating radar survey

摘要: The results of radar survey for three times are presented, aiming to determine ice thickness, volume and subglacial topography Urumqi Glacier No. 1, Tianshan Mountains, central Asia. Results show that the distribution is more in center lesser at both ends glacier. bedrock quite regular with altitudes decreasing towards front, showing U-shaped valley. By comparison, typical thinning along centerline East Branch glacier was 10–18 m period 1981–2006, reaching a maximum ∼30 terminus. corresponding 10296.2 × 10 4 3, 8797.9 3 8115.0 1981, 2001 2006, respectively. It has decreased by 21.2% during past 25 years, which direct result thinning. In same period, area terminus 12.2%, 10.3%, 3.6%, These changes responses regional climatic warming, dramatic increase 0.6°C (10 a) −1 1981–2006.
