Prevalence of Mild Cognitive Impairment and Dementia in Saudi Arabia: A Community-Based Study.

摘要: Introduction: The age of the population in Saudi Arabia is shifting toward elderly, which can lead to an increased risk mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. Objective: aim this study determine prevalence (MCI dementia) among elderly patients a community-based setting Riyadh, Arabia. Methods: In cross-sectional study, we included aged 60 years above who were seen Family Medicine Clinics affiliated with King Faisal Specialist Hospital Research Centre. Patients delirium, active depression, history severe head trauma past 3 months excluded. interviewed during their regular visit by trained physician collect demographic data administer validated Arabic version Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) test. Results: One hundred seventy-one recruited based on calculated sample size for study. mean was 67 ± 6 years. 45%. MCI 38.6% dementia 6.4%. Age, low level education, hypertension, cardiovascular disease factors impairment. Conclusion: Prevalence using MoCA upper range compared developed developing countries. high rate contributing finding.
