Self esteem, competence assessment and nurses ability to write reflectively – Is there any connection?

摘要: Background: Since the introduction of Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003, nurses practicing in New Zealand are required by law to have evidence support they competent practice. However many become distraught and / or angry at this prospect. From experience, researcher suggests that response appears be more commonly related expectation undertaking reflective writing, which is a key component competence evidence. Aim: To explore predisposing factors relating nursing, writing determine how may impact on nurse’s self esteem. Method: Utilisation Critical Social Theory informed feminist framework allows for exploration historical, social, political cultural shape form female reality It theory relates oppression power, with primary intent being raise consciousness order emancipate. Findings: Although no definitive findings were made, there multiple history, socialisation, imperatives beliefs potential their Competence, assessment practice complex, therefore presenting challenges. Conclusion: In understand contextual opportunities change need them engage critical reflection. As context has significant esteem, further research needed it influence nurses, nursing profession.
