摘要: India's agricultural sector is at a crossroads, facing challenges of stagnation in crop yields, non-remunerative prices, falling incomes and tardy responses from public service systems. There are reports peasant suicides due to non-profitability farming. However, scant empirical evidence available on changes real income wages the Indian sector. The present study uses data National Accounts Statistics Cost Cultivation Surveys analyse discusses underlying reasons. reveals that purchasing power farmers has remained low worsened over recent years. value output increased, but disproportionate rise input costs resulted fall several states, with agriculturally developed Punjab being an exception. Interestingly, wage rates for labour have shown increasing trend, indicating improvement welfare labour.
