摘要: Abstract The concentration of human population and development in wetland margins necessitated the identification establishment areas for conservation. However, change socio-economic built-up environment particularly urbanizing municipalities continue to impact state protected wetland. This study highlights this phenomenon focuses on relation between urbanization a international importance Metro Cebu, Philippines. Urbanization adjacent Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary (OIWS), first Ramsar Site Philippines, is analyzed terms land cover growth before after declaration area 1992. results show that percent urban intensified from 1973 1992 (1.29%) 1992–2007 (18.53%). can be attributed prioritization expansion space Cebu. On other hand, much higher 1970–1980 (47.14%) 1980–1990 (34.00%) proclamation OIWS. Shift availability accessibility types primary alternative sources income fishing communities indicate influence urbanization. Perceived problems reflect environmental effects such as oil spill, solid waste mismanagement, reclamation projects relate decrease fish stock. Upon empirical evidence OIWS restrained rate growth, education surrounding benefits conservation should enhanced. geographical position relative active requires regional level evaluation quality ecosystem. recommends policies take into account historical within region areas.
