On the formation of OH ordered layers by dissociation of H2O on an oxygen covered Ag(110) surface: An STM investigation

摘要: Abstract We present results of an STM investigation water interaction with oxygen covered Ag(1 1 0) on the example O(4 × 1) reconstructed surface. In agreement numerous previous experimental works, using diffraction techniques, we found that a structure OH(1 × 2) type, displaying rows in [1 −1 0] direction, is formed. The new features revealed by this local probe study, presence quasi rectangular islands evenly distributed across terraces, density 0.22 ± 0.03 and mean area 90 ± 15 nm 2 at 220 K. They are imaged apparent height 0.14 nm. It remarkable same OH row whole terrace “on top” “in between” islands. These attributed to silver mono-atomic height, formed clustering ad-atoms released during reaction O atoms molecules. findings point more complex behaviour dynamics than previously described. emphasise key role ad-atoms, added initial Ag(1 1 0)–O(4 × 1) surface, formation nanostructures. turn it concluded evidenced studies, chains.
