摘要: Assessment of competence to stand trial is a common evaluation that can have substantial consequences for defendants and the criminal justice system. Despite voluminous literature, much remains unknown. An obstacle progress in understanding what better termed “adjudicative competence” absence structured, standardized research measures assessment defendants. This article presents legal framework, strategy, instrument description, psychometric properties, construct validation MacArthur Structured Competencies Criminal Defendants (MacSAC-CD). The meet or exceed accepted indices internal consistency, interscorer agreement. Observed patterns correlations among support underlying theoretical structure competence-related abilities. Moreover, MacSAC-CD distinguishes groups competent incompetent defendants; reflects changes status; correlates positively with clinical judgments, negatively psychopathology impaired cognitive functioning, negligibly cynicism toward system
