摘要: 3-Nitropropionic acid (3-NA) was originally identified as a component of moldy sugarcane, produced by fungus, Arthrinium sp. Ingestion the mildewed sugarcane results in motor impairment and muscle weakness that is neither progressive nor reversible, accompanied bilateral damage to striatum (1,2) (see also Chapters 1, 2, 5, 10, 12). In rats, repeated systemic administration 3-NPA consistent morphologic injury (Fig. 1). Hippocampal less consistent, neocortical infrequent, cerebellum spared (3–5). The striatal induced resembles many neuropathologic aspects Huntington’s disease (6,7),(see 12), particularly when low doses are used (8). addition, regional caused chronic severe global ischemia (9) hypoglycemia (10). Thus, useful tool for understanding neuronal resulting from late-onset neurodegenerative disorders such disease, well acute insults hypoglycemia.
