摘要: For stated preference (SP) studies, we develop a model that assesses the influence of choice set misspecification arising from omission perceived substitutes among real-world alternatives in same class goods. This problem is most likely to be present when individuals are allowed select “no purchase” option instead being forced choose an explicit SP with hypothetical attribute levels. A convenient feature our researchers do not need know exactly which omitted real substitute individual prefers, only exists. In empirical illustration, comparison rival models suggests who overlook presence related experiment can end up noticeably biased welfare estimates. Our more-general it may prudent for future anticipate, then test and possibly correct for, distortions utility parameter estimates result this problem.
