摘要: Abstract A block and basin system of Devonian to Carboniferous age, with Caledonide/Appalachian trends, bounds the northern margin supposed Hercynian Ocean on a predrift reconstruction continents in North Atlantic area. Basin initiation subsidence patterns are established from broad deductions concerning sedimentary facies contemporary volcanism faulting. The British Irish basins may be due tensional effects arising differential syn- post-orogenic uplift, mantle partial melting southward directed, lower crustal creep towards continental margin. Maritime Canadian associated major dextral strike-slip faults along an extension transform fault related closure Ocean.
