摘要: BACKGROUND In Crete, the largest island of Greece, many pesticide formulations are increasingly used in agriculture order to raise crop production. This study reviews a number poisoning cases registered at Center Toxicology and Forensic Sciences Research University Crete between 1991 2001. MATERIAL/METHODS The medical records toxicological data poisonings presented. analyzed samples were mainly blood and/or urine, but also gastric fluids other tissues. Analysis involved variety techniques. RESULTS Eleven caused by paraquat (7 men, 4 women, aged 15-58 years) reported, five which had fatal outcome. Initial plasma levels ranged 0.4-165 pg/ml. Thirteen intoxications due various organophosphorous agents presented (11 2 13-69 years). Pesticide upon admission from 1.0-108 pg/ml there six fatalities. Carbamate (4 32-60 methomyl (initial 1.6-57 mg/l) resulted death. A case methyl bromide intoxication is CONCLUSIONS results highlight toxic potentially lethal effects agriculture. Special seminars should be run educate farmers on proper use these supply pesticides restricted those who follow all safety measures. Physicians trained promptly identify treat intoxications.
