摘要: Background Carers are key providers of care and support to mental health patients policies consistently mandate carer involvement. Understanding carers' experiences views about assessment for involuntary admission subsequent detention is crucial efforts improve policy practice. Aims We aimed synthesise qualitative evidence the their family friends under legislation. Method searched five bibliographic databases, reference lists citations. Studies were included if they collected data using methods aged 18 or older; reported on legislation anywhere in world; published peer-reviewed journals. used meta-synthesis. Results The review 23 papers. Themes consistent across time setting related emotional impact detention; availability carers; extent which carers felt involved decision-making; relationships with staff during quality provided patients. often described conflicting feelings relief coupled distress anxiety how patient might cope respond. also spoke need timely accessible information, supportive trusting professionals, involvement as partners care.
