摘要: This paper presents a linear stability analysis of rapidly sheared layer granular material confined between two parallel solid plates. The form the steady base-state solution depends on nature interaction and bounding plates three cases are considered, in which boundaries act as sources or sinks pseudo-thermal energy, merely confine while leaving velocity profile linear, unbounded shear. is conventional, though complicated, results similar all cases. For given physical properties particles it found that condition marginal only separation mean bulk density particulate contained them. system stable when thickness sufficiently small, but if increased becomes unstable, initially fastest growing mode analogous to modes corresponding problem. However, with further increase new dominant this an unusual type, no analogue case growth rate passes through maximum at certain value layer, point grows much faster than any could be shared also material, greatest neither very large nor small.
