Olfactory Awareness and the Self-Reported Importance of Olfactory Information in Romantic Interest

摘要: Many people seem to be looking for similar attributes when searching a potential romantic partner. Olfactory social cues can important parts of the process, though there are individual differences as their value. Gay men, example, value scent less in selecting partner than do heterosexual men (White and Cunningham, Chemosens Percept 10:31–41, 2017). Is it possible that relative importance olfaction mate selection is simply natural consequence being generally aware odorants? The present study examined relationship between odor awareness mating two studies. Participants each studies completed both Romantic Interests Survey (Herz Inzlich, Evol Hum Behav 23:359–364, 2002) Odor Awareness (Smeets et al., Chem Senses 33:725–734, 2008). In first study, 455 college-aged individuals were surveyed, while second 453 varying sexual preference (142 women, 161 150 gay men) questionnaires. Principle components analyses from revealed different underlying scores on RIS; one component best accounted OAS scores.
