摘要: The objective of the present study was to determine marginal vitamin A deficiency (VAD) by testing hydrolysis retinoyl glucuronide (RAG) retinoic acid (RA) in children. Previous studies rats showed that occurred when were deficient. Children (n 61) aged 3-18 years, divided into two groups, I and II. Blood collected from children Group 19) who not dosed with RAG. II 42) administered all-trans orally, blood 4 h after dose. All serum samples analysed for retinoids carotenoids. RA detected only retinol 1 micromol/l six Mean sixty-one 0.522 (sd 0.315) micromol/l. beta-carotene (0.016 0.015) micromol/l) far below normal compared level lutein (0.176 0.10) low might be due a intake carotene but high demand A. RAG test may prove useful approach determination VAD no clinical or subclinical signs VAD. High prevalence amongst certain communities Assam cannot ruled out.
