摘要: Abstract Abattoirs have a large number of energy intensive processes. Beside supply, disposal costs animal by-products (ABP) are the main relevant cost drivers. In this study, successful implementation new waste and management system based on anaerobic digestion is described. Several limitations technical challenges regarding protein rich material had to be overcome. The most significant problems were process imbalances such as foaming floatation well high accumulation volatile fatty acids low biogas yields caused by lack essential microelements, ammonia concentrations fluctuation in operation temperature. Ultimately, 85% accumulated during slaughter converted into 2700 MW h thermal 3200 MW h electrical combined heat power (CHP) plant. optimally integrated production means stratified buffer. generated CHP-plant can cover share requirement abattoir corresponding 50% 60% electric demand, respectively. terms annual for supply reduction 63% from 1.4 Mio € about 0.5 Mio € could achieved with system. payback period whole investment approximately 9 years. economic benefits also positive environmental impact should highlighted: 79% greenhouse gas emissions 4.5 Mio kg CO2 0.9 Mio kg annually was achieved. realized concept received Austrian Energy Globe Award represents first mono-digestion slaughterhouse worldwide.
