摘要: Abstract A valuable body of literature critiques the ways in which data generated by individuals through their smartphone and mobile media use are collected controlled governments, state-based institutions corporations. However, alongside this much-needed critical scholarship, it is necessary to identify specific attitudes users towards locational collection activities and, extension, differing levels socio-technical literacy that exist among users. This article presents evidence train commuters about geolocation mapping movement via Wi-Fi signals. Involving significant methodological challenges, study used Simple Observation combined with a three-question survey 100 completed at major station Melbourne, Australia, over three-day period. Based on analysed, findings show grouped into six categories: (1) in favour, (2) in favour guarantees, (3) sceptical, (4) staunchly opposed, (5) confused, (6) apathetic. We propose publicly visible initiatives raise awareness utilisation essential inform citizens privacy, especially given continuing spread sensor-based monitoring systems public spaces so-called smart cities.
