摘要: When encapsulated in the water nanochannels of a Nafion membrane, 2-(3′-pyridyl)benzimidazole is found to exhibit fluorescence from monocationic species, T*, which pyridyl nitrogen protonated. This kind has not been observed earlier for this molecule, except very small extent strongly acidic aqueous solutions. Thus, promote formation an uncommon excited state molecule. Two bands are T* Nafion. These ascribed fluorophores two different kinds environments: bulk water-like and interfacial. The band residing near interface become predominant one partially dehydrated membranes, thereby fortifying our contention importance electrostatic interactions at low hydration levels. assignment native membranes phototautomer gains support experiments with cation-exchanged blue shifted C* form, benzimidazole
