摘要: OBJECTIVES Paradoxical vocal fold motion (PVFM) is a common condition where the folds inappropriately adduct during inspiration. This results in dyspnea and occasionally significant distress. The thought to be primarily functional, with behavioural therapy considered mainstay non-acute setting. However, practice variations limited access speech language pathology (SLP) services can pose management challenges. We aimed examine efficacy of surgeon performed visual biofeedback as first-line treatment for PVFM. STUDY DESIGN Prospective, non-randomized, non-comparative clinical study. METHODS Adult patients referred possible PVFM congruent laryngoscopy findings over two-year period were included. Patients excluded if they presented acute distress, had alternate diagnosis explain symptomology and/or coexisting untreated lower respiratory pathology. underwent immediate surgeon-performed on same visit day. primary outcome interest was change Dyspnea Index (DI) scores pre- post-intervention 3 months follow-up. secondary measured asthma medication use from baseline RESULTS Of 34 presenting, 25 met inclusion criteria. these, 72% female an average age 36.9 ± 14.1. Approximately 48% well-controlled at presentation co-morbid psychiatric diagnoses (52%). Pre- analysis showed improvement DI (p < 0.001) reduction bronchodilator (p = 0.003).
