摘要: Carotid body tumor is an uncommon hypervascular benign in the head and neck region. It usually presents as a slow growing mass at carotid bifurcation. Because of high rate neurovascular complications, resection this considered challenging for otolaryngologists. Between 1988 2013, 40 tumors from 38 patients were diagnosed underwent Siriraj Hospital (25 female 13 male patients). Their age ranged 15 to 59 years. Seven had bilateral simultaneously whereas six cases familial history tumor. angiography was performed 29 cases; other additional diagnostic studies included CT scan, MRI, MRA detect widening bifurcation, its extension, multifocal tumors. All successfully removed. However, internal artery bifurcation injured 11 (27.5 %). Shamblin class III previous biopsy risk factors vascular injury. Postoperative cranial nerves deficit found 20 % CNS complication occurred two (5 %). There no surgical mortality. Additionally, upon mean follow-up period 36 months, recurrence or malignant transformation detected study. Multidisciplinary approach, early detection, meticulous preoperative evaluation, modern technique are key success removal.
