摘要: In December 1974 the National Organics Reconnaisance Survey (NORS) was undertaken to determine concentration and potential effects of selected organic chemicals in drinking water. Among objectives this study an investigation raw water source treatment practices on formation chloroform, bromochloromethane, bromodichloromethane, bromoform, 1,2-dichloroethane, carbon tetrachloride. The also intended whether occurrence these substances widespread. general, compounds were not detected or present at very low concentrations sources examined.1 precursor compounds, however, ubiquitous since all finished waters contained some amounts ranging from 0.1 311 jug/L. remaining always but their presence frequent enough have them recognized as widespread contaminants. Under provisions Safe Drinking Water Act 1974, a maximum contaminant level (MCL) may be established for each chemical NORS data indicate that total (TOC) is dominant factor influencing creation chlorinated byproducts.1 use surface source, practice prechlorination, free chlorine residuals greater than 0.4 mg/L enhance trihalometh-
