摘要: Biodiversity which refers to the variability among living organisms from all sources, including terrestrial, marine and other aquatic eco-systems includes diversity within species, between species ecosystems. The biodiversity we see today has resulted over billions of years evolution provides a large number goods services that sustain our lives. It genetic resources for food agriculture, therefore, constitutes biological basis world security support human livelihood. Of estimated 5–50 million world’s biota, only 1.7 have been described date 1 . distribution these is highly uneven. About 7% total land area home half with tropics alone accounting 5 million. As many as 44% vascular plants 35% in four vertebrate groups are confined 25 hotspots comprising 1.4% surface earth 2 list world, India figures two hotspots; Western Ghats Indo-Burma region covering Eastern Himalayas. Although both Himalayas considered datadeficient, existing knowledge about plant animal provide some indication their value 3 In case Himalayas, 10,000 known region, 3160 (32%)
