摘要: Two types of lactose-binding lectins, AJL-1 and AJL-2, were purified from the skin mucus extract Japanese eelAnguilla japonica by lactose affinity chromatography subsequent gel filtration. The molecular masses AJL-2 16,091 31,743 Da, respectively. Intact was comprised two identical 16-kDa subunits having blocked N termini no disulfide bonds. a homodimer with Based on N-terminal amino acid sequence monomer, nucleotide cDNA encoding this lectin determined 3′- 5′-rapid amplification ends. deduced showed ∼30% homology C-type which bind to carbohydrates in Ca2+-dependent manner. In addition, exhibited highly conserved consensus residues carbohydrate recognition domain, although Ca2+-independent activity. Gene expression detected only Northern blot analysis, localization demonstrated club cells immunohistochemistry. These results indicate that is secreted body surface function as component mucus. agglutinated Escherichia coli suppressed its growth, suggesting involved host defense.
