摘要: Continuous motorization and urbanization around the globe leads to an expansion of population in major cities. Therefore, ever-growing pressure imposed on existing mass transit systems calls for a better technology, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), solve many new demanding management issues. Many studies extant ITS literature attempted address these issues within which various research methodologies were adopted. However, there is very few paper summarized what does optimal control theory (OCT), one sharpest tools tackle engineering, do solving It{\textquoteright}s both important interesting answer following two questions. (1) How OCT contribute objectives? (2) What are gaps possible future directions? We searched 11 top transportation journals reviewed 41 articles area was used as main methodology. categorized by four different ways our can conclude from review that widely aspects large portion aimed reduce traffic congestion. also critically discussed pointed out some directions towards be used.
