Collisionless ion modeling in Hall thrusters: analytical axial velocity distribution function and heat flux closures

摘要: The genesis of the ion axial velocity distribution function (VDF) is analyzed for collisionless Hall thruster discharges. An analytical form VDF obtained from Vlasov equation, by applying Tonks–Langmuir theory in channel, under simplifying assumptions monoenergetic creation ions and steady state. equivalent set 1D unsteady anisotropic moment equations derived simple phenomenological closures are formulated, assuming a polynomial shape VDF. results compared to particle-in-cell simulations, employing either zero heat flux (Euler-like equations) or polynomial-VDF closure flux. its moments then experimental measurements.
