摘要: Materials investigated for their potential use as heterogeneous selective oxidation catalysts may sometimes show highly ordered regions at the nanoscale which are embedded within disordered matrices from they nucleate. These often referred to X-ray amorphous due lack of higher-order Bragg reflections; however, here we annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (ADF-STEM) real space imaging characterize local structure nanometer size domains compositionally and structurally complex nascent oxide phases present in multi-phase solids. images have been obtained using aberration-corrected point its structural characterization where synthesis conditions a particular phase not optimized or self-assembly extended structures has locally hindered. Such studies lead identification new catalysts, provided targeted can be scaled up.
