In Memoriam: Professor Fang Zhao: The Computing in Civil Engineering Community Loses a Great Friend

摘要: With sadness, we inform readers that Professor Fang Zhao passed away on December 7, 2010. At Florida International University, was the interim chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering deputy director Lehman Center for Transportation Research. She also an active valuable specialty editor ASCE Journal Computing in transportation engineering area. graduated from Beijing Institute Architecture China, then she moved to United States mid-1980s received her master’s doctorate degrees civil Carnegie Mellon University 1987 1991, respectively, under direction Mary Lou Maher. joined 1992 as assistant professor spent remainder career at FIU. specialized computer applications problems, with a specific focus transportation. Her research covered wide range computing topics. FIU Dean Amir Mirmiran stated, “She nationally recognized expert GIS-T, especially temporal GIS For last three years led department so ably chair, not only maintaining its operations, but significantly enhancing enrollment, awarded, funding, well obtaining ABET accreditation two programs—civil environmental.” amazing person who will be sorely missed by our community.
