Childhood psychological maltreatment subtypes and adolescent depressive symptoms

摘要: The aim of this study was to understand how subtypes and the timing psychological maltreatment contribute adolescent depressive symptoms at age 14. sample included 638 youth from Longitudinal Studies Child Abuse Neglect (LONGSCAN). At 12, reported experiences (degradation, isolating, terrorizing), physical abuse (endangerment injury), sexual that occurred before during elementary school/last year. Multivariable regression models were conducted separately for females males each two time periods accounted demographics, primary caregiver symptoms, other subtypes, youth-reported 12 symptoms. For girls, degradation only subtype contributed unique variance Degradation school chronic had a stronger impact on depression Only isolating behaviors year isolation predicted in boys. These results suggest childhood is multi-dimensional implicated etiology Future prevention efforts should consider parental reducing risk depression.
