摘要: Prophylactic oophorectomy is chosen by some women at high risk of ovarian cancer due to inherited predisposition. Unfortunately, this surgery not 100% effective in preventing intra-abdominal carcinomatosis that histologically resembles cancer. To determine the incidence post-oophorectomy and quantify effectiveness preventive surgery, a multicenter study ongoing between National Cancer Institute (NCI), Creighton University, United Kingdom. The prospective malignancy, especially tissues derived from coelomic epithelium (primarily ovary, fallopian tube, peritoneum), was compared similar genetic who have or undergone oophorectomy. Analysis 12 NCI families has been completed. Prospective observation ran date family ascertainment until incidence, death, December 31, 1992. Approximately 1600 person-years occurred among 346 first-degree relatives breast case patient for had Eight cancers occurred, with two cases during 460 44 oophorectomized women. Compared Connecticut Tumor Registry data adjusted age, race, birth cohort, there an approximately 24-fold excess non-oophorectomized 13-fold "ovarian" women, though difference statistically significant. confidence intervals around these numbers were large, collaborative analysis will be required whether apparent protective effect real.
