摘要: The systematics of the order Tubulidentata is poorly known. Its phylogeny has never been thoroughly analysed and only a single review ever performed, which was over 30 years ago. This situation hampered palaeoecological palaeobiogeographical studies these Neogene mammals. present revision Orycteropodidae deals with all African Eurasian species last 20 Myr. first comprehensive cladistic analysis family presented here. results this analysis, based on 39 coded morphological characters, supplemented by non-coded features taken from skeleton, used to reconstruct Tubulidentata. Two distinct lineages within genus Orycteropus are recognized characterized. new Amphiorycteropus subsequently created, in harmonize taxonomy phylogeny. fossil genera Leptorycteropus Myorycteropus validated, bringing number four. Moreover, Orycteropodidae, confirmed now 14. outcome study allows us propose consistent scenario for aardvarks. Finally, represents most work evolutionary history date, provides framework future studies. © 2009 Linnean Society London, Zoological Journal Society, 2009, 155, 649–702.
