摘要: Observations made during the International Indian Ocean Expedition provide basis for a description of summer circulation in upper 500 m western Arabian Sea, off coast Oman. Under influence south-west monsoon pronounced geostrophic current develops along at least 1 000 km South-East between Ras Fartak and al Hadd May strong south-westerly wind brings about offshore transport surface layers 55-degrees 60-degrees-E. Water is upwelled onto continental shelf from depths 150 this creates negative sea-surface temperature anomaly coast, reaching maximum development July-August. With decline upwelling ceases September. The origin water traced its distribution related to direction coastline, sea-bed topography. masses intermediate described. Features are compared with those other regions.
