Calculating the energy values of foods: towards new empirical formulae based on diets with varied intakes of unavailable complex carbohydrates.

摘要: A statistical analysis has been made by generalised linear regression of the relationship between availability digestible energy (DE) and intakes dietary gross (E) 'fibre' or unavailable complex carbohydrate (U), for published observations on 43 human diets with varied sources U (2-93 g daily) E (7598-15104 kJ 1816-3610 kcal daily). Simple formulae were devised also metabolizable (ME) assuming urinary losses 30 7 kcal/g nitrogen (N) intake. For calculation DE ME in mixed accuracy greater than obtained previously methods, following are proposed their limitations discussed: (kJ) = 0.96E(kJ)-9U(g) 0.96E(kJ)-9U(g)-30N(g) (kcal) 0.96E(kcal)-2U(g) 0.96E(kcal)-2U(g)-7N(g) The equations used to identify atypical faecal excretion, possible causes considered. In particular high whole-grain cereal cause predicted these which is possibly explained more reaching colon expected from current compositional analytical methods.
