摘要: Transport properties on atom-size metallic contacts are studied by combining measurements conductance and shot noise. Results presented fewatom of the monovalent metal gold trivalent aluminum, as well larger contacts. The experiments explained in terms quantum modes. For a single atom contact, noise tends to be fully suppressed, indicating that only one mode with transmission nearly unity contributes current. In contrast, aluminum does not show this property. number partially transmitted modes continuously grows contact size.
