Preparation, characterization and antibacterial activity of biodegradable films prepared from carrageenan

摘要: Carrageenan films have been formulated as a packaging material. Films plasticized with glycerol were loaded citric acid (1, 0.75, 0.5, 0.25 and 0.1 %) for enhanced antimicrobial effects. Blank characterized by mechanical properties, scanning electron microscopy contact angle. In addition, swelling antibacterial studies conducted to further characterize the films. Both blank showed different morphology, high elasticity acceptable tensile (mechanical) properties. These produced higher zones of inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli Dickeya chrysanthemi strains compared film.
