摘要: Summary  The Vegetation Assets, States and Transitions (VAST) framework classifies vegetation by degree of human modification as a series states, from intact native through to total removal. VAST is simple communication reporting tool designed assist in describing accounting for human-induced vegetation. A benchmark identified each association based on structure, composition current regenerative capacity. Benchmarks are the best understanding pre-European conditions (sometimes called ‘fully natural’). Relative change condition this assessed site or patch. Three case studies demonstrate use diagnostic criteria that underpin VAST. We argue has potential provide consistent monitoring at range scales. Uses datasets natural resource planning management discussed including response changes land practices, measuring progress toward targets mapping trends.
