Home range and diving behaviour of Heaviside's dolphins monitored by satellite off the west coast of South Africa

摘要: Three Heaviside's dolphins Cephalorhynchus heavisidii were fitted with satellite depth recorders off the west coast of South Africa during February–April 1997 and monitored for 51, 73 130 days, respectively. In total, 345 locations received from three animals, but only 27 one male. Using α-local convex hull minimum polygon methods, respectively, home range remaining male was estimated at 1 520 2 347 km2, corresponding core-area estimates (50% locations) 134 123 km2. For female, 672 027 those core area 71 230 The female's smallest yet described this species, animal resighted nearly years later within 13 km tagging site. Binned dive data 6-hourly intervals.
