摘要: Nipping is a potentially damaging aggressive behavior of juvenile steelhead trout (Salmo gairdneri). By analyzing videotaped interactions pairs fish we determined where nips were aimed and they contacted the opponent's body. Patterns fin damage also assessed. Aims (contacts) distributed differently in reciprocal nonreciprocal bouts. In bouts, aims directed mainly at dorsal fin, central body section, caudal fin. Nip contact was biased towards both concentrated on anterior portions We suggest that adjust their fighting tactics response to opponent behavior. Mouth fighting, novel trout, observed some The incurred greatest damage. conclude aggression (nipping) responsible for commonly hatchery-reared salmonids.
