摘要: Theoretical signaling models predict that to be honest, begging vocalizations must costly. To test this hypothesis, oxygen consumption was measured during resting and (i.e., vocalizing) activities in pups of the subterranean rodent Ctenomys talarum by means open-flow respirometry. No statistical differences individual between calling ranging age from day 2 20 were found. Given these data, calls C. could not considered as honest advertisements offspring need, contrary what suggested behavioral observations mother nestling period.
