Psychiatric morbidity and post-traumatic symptoms among survivors in the early stage following the 1999 earthquake in Taiwan.

摘要: This study reports the clinical psychiatric presentations and post-traumatic symptoms among 525 survivors at Yu-Chyr District in Nantou County who sought service first month following devastating earthquake that struck central area of Taiwan. All subjects received interviews assessments using 12-item Chinese Health Questionnaire (CHQ-12) a checklist for symptoms. The most common reported were insomnia, palpitations, nervousness, dizziness with headache. Eleven percent having thought death or suicidal ideation. mean score on CHQ-12 was 6.43 (S.D.=2.89). rate probable morbidity as defined by > =3 89.9%. Post-traumatic very prevalent, particularly re-experiencing hyper-arousal. Factors significantly associated high being female, serious destruction property house, personality characteristics nervousness obsessiveness. Findings this suggest early intervention, including pharmacological treatment acute stress disorder, is indicated during stages disastrous earthquake.
