摘要: Information visualization shows tremendous potential for helping both expert and casual users alike make sense of temporal data, but current time series tools provide poor support comparing several foci in a dataset while retaining context distance awareness. We introduce method supporting this kind multi-focus interaction that we call stack zooming. The approach is based on the user interactively building hierarchies 1D strips stacked top each other, where subsequent represents higher zoom level, sibling represent branches visual exploration. Correlation graphics show relation between stacks different levels, providing awareness among focus points. can also be used as graphical histories communicating insights to stakeholders. discuss how spaces zooming extended with annotation local statistics computations fit hierarchical stacking metaphor.
