摘要: The recovery of chestnut from blight in Italy and Michigan largely was responsible for the resurgence research. observed remission disease now has been attributed to a biological control process called hypovirulence, whereby virulent strains are debilitated as result infection by fungal viruses (hypoviruses). Several species hypoviruses known each may impart unique effects on Cryphonectria parasitica. Lethal infections often controlled introducing appropriate hypovirus into cankers. Unfortunately, at many locations within native range American chestnut, complex system vegetative incompatibility restricts transmission among strains. Factors like apparently regulate widespread establishment presumably are, part, our inability artificially establish extent that occurred naturally. Some factors success or failure be discovered part ongoing research an isolated Wisconsin stand. Hopefully, understanding phenomenon hypovirulence eventually will allow it employed restoration program.
