摘要: Juvenile recruitment, growth, survival, and time to sexual maturation of rodents are all negatively affected by high densities adults. But whether density males, females, or total adults has the greatest effect on juveniles is not known. We maintained populations gray-tailed voles, Microtus canicaudus, in 0.2-ha enclosures with 30 10 females (male-biased); 20 (control); (female-biased) breeding With juvenile population increased 180 voles/enclosure (700 voles/ha) male-biased 200 voles/ enclosure (1,000 control female-biased enclosures. Recruitment, survival either sex were adult males but recruitment young females. Reduced was likely due neonatal death before emergence from nest. conclude that have a greater negative reproductive development than do males. This difference slight, however, under normal wild probably minimal impact vole demography. words: infanticide, ratios, maturation, territoriality
