摘要: The applications of and the problems encountered in use field electron emitters as cold cathode sources for beam devices have been reviewed. possibility using an etched carbon fibre a source such has examined. A simple scanning microscope carbon-fibre emitter constructed produced stable pictures with resolution approximately 0·2 μm at system pressure 10−5 Pa. Unlike tungsten, fibres will emit electrons many thousands hours estimated current densities order 105 cm−2. Recently emission currents high 1 mA applied voltages 3·5 kV obtained without any sign breakdown after running continuously 100 h.
